SCHARFILM is a Bucharest-based film production company founded in 2000 by Liviu Mărghidan and Ruxandra Flonta. We bridge the gap between global creative visions and the untapped potential of Romanian landscapes. With over 25 years of experience, we specialize in international co-productions, professional cinema equipment rental, and are Romania's leading experts in PADI-certified underwater cinematography. Over the years, we have been involved in more than 50 productions, receiving numerous awards at prestigious festivals like San Sebastian and Cannes.

Liviu Mărghidan

A cornerstone of modern Romanian cinema and a founding member of the RSC, Liviu is an award-winning Director and Cinematographer. His visionary DP work has defined landmark films like California Dreamin' (Cannes Un Certain Regard Winner), Pororoca, and Tales from the Golden Age. As a director, he focuses on nature and childhood adventures, with successful titles such as The Sentries (Străjerii), The Sentries of the Delta, and Refuge (Castelul Crăiței). He is also one of Romania's most experienced PADI-certified underwater cinematographers.
Ruxandra Flonta
Producer · Managing Partner · International Expert
Co-founder and Managing Partner of SCHARFILM since 2000, Ruxandra transitioned from a background in Law and International Economic Relations to become a prominent figure in Romanian film production. She has produced major international co-productions and award-winning features, including Pororoca (San Sebastian Best Actor Winner), Mo, and Medalia de Onoare. Her expertise in managing complex productions and navigating the European funding landscape has been instrumental in the company's long-standing success and reputation for excellence.
